What we collect

Information you give us. When you submit an enquiry form on this website, or contact us by phone or email, we collect the details you provide. That typically includes your name, email address, telephone number, the company you represent, and whatever you tell us about the equipment or site you need inspected.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, this site records technical information when you visit: your IP address, browser type and device, the pages you view, how you arrived at the site, and how long you stay. This is collected through Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics, and is used in aggregate to understand how the site is used.

Security verification. Our enquiry forms use Google reCAPTCHA to distinguish genuine enquiries from automated submissions. reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information and sends it to Google for analysis. Your use of the forms is subject to Google's own privacy policy and terms of service.

We do not ask for, and do not want, sensitive information as defined by the Privacy Act — such as health information or government identifiers. Please do not send it to us through this website.

Why we collect it

We use the information you provide to respond to your enquiry, prepare quotations, arrange and carry out inspection work, issue reports and invoices, and keep the records that inspection work requires. We use the automatically collected information to maintain and improve the website.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use enquiry details for unrelated marketing.

Who we share it with, and overseas disclosure

We disclose personal information to service providers who help us operate the website and our email, and to others where you would reasonably expect it — for example to a site owner or principal contractor where that is necessary to carry out an inspection you have asked us to perform.

Some of these providers are located outside Australia. Enquiry emails from this website are delivered using SendGrid (Twilio Inc., United States). Website analytics and form security use Google services (Google LLC, United States). By submitting an enquiry through this website you acknowledge that the information is transmitted through, and stored on, systems located overseas, principally in the United States.

We may also disclose information where we are required or authorised to do so by law.

Cookies and analytics

This website uses cookies and similar technologies through Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics and Google reCAPTCHA. Cookies are small files stored by your browser. They let us count visits, understand which pages are useful, and protect our forms from automated abuse.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using Google's browser add-on. Blocking cookies may affect how parts of this site work, including the enquiry forms.

How we store and protect it

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access or disclosure. Enquiry details are held in our email and business systems and are accessible only to APEC personnel who need them. We keep information for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected and for any period required by law, and take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it when it is no longer needed.

No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. While we work to protect your information, we cannot guarantee the security of information sent to us over the internet.

Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong, out of date or incomplete. Contact us using the details above. We will respond within a reasonable period. If we decline a request, we will tell you why.

Complaints

If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can refer the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
